A rendezvous with uBu in the score of B. A. Zimmermann's cello concerto “en forme de pas de trois”: the musical text, a fictional place somewhere between ballet music and instrumental concerto, brims with hints and explosions of association alongside its performance instructions. uBu's interpretation experts settle into these landscapes of sound and image. They skilfully trace paths opening between playing and moving, encounter the fabulous creatures living between sound and image, and look deep into their eyes. Zimmermann's pluralism rises from the mist, wonderfully estranged and staged with a keen sense of the absurd. The pages of the score shimmer in the moonlight and look like swans—or are they paladins? Ultimately, this is not a concert. It is neither about hearing nor seeing, but about the unexpectedly fantastic things awakened when one shifts into the other.
